Went to see Jonathan Coulton and Paul & Storm in concert, it was -so- awesome to see them again! I brought Wuff with me, and met Bryon and Mike on-site. There was much to talk about and much to drink, which is a winning combination. Also, Paul&Storm performed a new song for the very first time, which I must upload onto the YouTubes to share with the world.

In other news, The Watchmen are having a one-time reunion show at The Horseshoe at the end of September - tickets are a paltry 20 bucks. How could you not want to see that show? :)

sorta update

Phone interview tonight turned out to be for a position in -California-, not locally. I think I impressed them enough to warrant a call-back, but they didn't really ask me anything too specific to begin with.. sooo.. I dunno. I don't feel like I knowcked anythign out of any park, to use that analogy.

So, I proceeded to play lots of RockBand, drums on Hard.. almost halfway through the songlist now. Alcohol almost helps in that regard. Almost, but not really.

le Gay Pride

Pride was more-of-the-same this year. Thankfully I got to spend the Friday night with a bazooka-load of friends, had awesome dumpling goodness, and won the Amy Winehouse Award during Rock Band. I had a brief stint as a co-host of a rave on Secondlife (which i'm not even on yet) before dying quietly of fatigue at about 1:something am.
Saturday was spent in the company of Growler, Khaki, Khaki's sister, and eventually Growler's sister as well (i know, wtf eh?) We have Bubble Tea in common. I liked that when walking along the street next to Growler in his leather harness and fox tail (and he's really a wolf!.. yeah!) i felt halfways invisible, seeing as more eyes/cameras were on him than on me.. and when they shouted "Nice Tail!" it was never at me ;) During beers at The Eagle we ran into Kitt and ManedWolf (remember those guys? they're still out there!) and there was much conversing about all sorts of stuff. Then after a touch of Terminator2 on AMC I went home.
I'm gonna snoooooooze now.

a good deed for today

Roomies are at AC along with some pals. One pal managed to forget part of his stuff he was selling, oops. He calls me. I speed off to the courier, their truck has already left. Shit. I speed off to the -other- courier way up in the other part of town... ta-daah! package is going out tonight :)

Aah, it's good to do good deeds, right?
but wait, there's more.

It was frickin' -=pouring=- rain on the way up. After I get there a somewhat moist bicyclist comes in with a somewhat moist claim slip.. and not-good-enough ID to get his decidedly-important package that he biked 10k in the rain to get. They give him a hard time, and he needs the package, like, -now- people... and still, a hard time is to be had by this poor guy. This officially sucks.

So... I drive him to his house 10k away to get something he can actually use as ID to pick up the package. He -totally- owes me a beer. If he doesn't email me back, well, at least I know where he lives ;)

Don't let anyone tell you that I'm not a nice guy.

Holy festering crap.. I am one tired human bean these days. Working 6 days a week doing physical labour is just draining. Annoyingly, it leaves me in a crummy position for jobhunting, too. I get home and just crash on the couch, if I'm lucky to have gotten home before 4pm. If you're a HR person do you want to talk to a tired guy at 4pm on a work-day? Yeah. Soo.. I gotta try to figure out how to address this circumstance. I like the job but the pay's just not there, and it's really not conducive to taking a break of any kind during the day. This temporary position could end up being more permanent than I'd bargained for. At least I'm getting some exercise.

In other news, I managed to convince a horsey named Sledge that some people are not mean and that he really doesn't need to be crazy. He's on 'vacation' now, so hopefully he'll be just as not-crazy once he's back to work. I like Sledge, I also like the fact that people noticed that he changed significantly while I was looking after him. Accomplishment is good, no matter what the scale.

I'm temporarily re-employed, but it is hampering my ability to search for a new job. I've had some interviews, but they were more for informational purposes than for "we have a position we are actively hiring for", though the interview I had on Friday seems like a promising place to work for. Hopefully I'll figure out a plan to seek out a new job while still pulling in money, while simultaneously not pissing off the people I currently DO work for. This is all so complicated.

Plus my car is acting funny - she really does need to see her old boyfriend at the -good- mechanic shop. I sure hope she can get me to work tomorrow - carpooling out into the country doesn't really work.

Actual unemployment: day one

I'm not counting last week.. last week was really more recuperating from vacations and/or hangovers, etc. All told, vacation was great, and it really was time to go "home for a rest" by the end of it all. Instead of rest I got the bright idea to celebrate my successful vacationing, and then had to recuperate from that.. and then visited Toronto to re-invigorate Branwyn's PC until 4am (and also to get my nice jeans fixed, thanks man) and then visit the Toronto Zoo with Bryon and Mike and Sean and Amy and two of their handsome friends.. great company to have while you walk for many many many hours. Then, time for wonderful barbecue and more partying in Kensington, but without much intoxication (see above). Then my usual Sunday job with the horseys..

Needless to say, on this first day of unemployment, I was sore as fuck. All over. I spent many hours sleeping, either because I was too sore from the usual physical strains incurred on Sundays, or too sore from walking on Saturday, or too tired from lack of sleep incurred on Friday night. Today was The Perfect Storm of exhaustion.

Even still, I have set up a rapport with one person (who isn't hiring) and will be talking to an HR rep tomorrow (who might not be hiring either).. but who knows. Unemployment is still young, yet. I'll be relying on all of you to get me through this (whether you're reading this post or not)

Everybody I know is hereby on notice: you're my friend for a reason, that reason is as unique as each of you. Don't forget that reason, no matter what happens to me over the next long (hopefully not too long) while.

need HELP with an iPod

<lj-embed id="7" />Alright you Mac junkies. Here's the deal. I'm borrowing my roomie's iPod for a roadtrip. It's got a nifty car-cigarette-lighter power adaptor that has a USB port in it. When plugging the data cable into this adaptor the little light on the adaptor changes from green to red, indicating that there's some kind of charging and/or power draw happening.

The problem is as soon as this happens the iPod stops outputting sound through the fucking headphones. Even at the most glancingly slight contact of the little metal bumps on the power adaptor to the cigarette lighter in the car, boom, no sound. The screen stays active and the inner workings of the iPod seem to be humming along perfectly well at this time, it doesn't stop reading from the drive or anything.

So what the hell is going on with it? Is it trying to route the audio through the cable like it's in a docking station or what? Is there a way to gently encourage it to stop driving me fucking bonkers? :)

The show at Hugh's Room tonight was great. David Matheson did a wonderful job opening the show. One song of his that I will be learning is 'Raccoon', which is quite cute. It's available as track 7 at this link and they have convenient streaming audio.. though that is just an old bootleg it'll suffice to get the song across. It's totally fun.
It was great seeing The Frantics again, and they sang a bunch of awesome stuff including Dutch Cowboys, (Kiss My Ass )I'm A Monarch, Car Sick, the Prostate Song, Mimico, Liar Liar Liar Liar Liar (the Truth Song) , the old-west Albert Einstein song, and Vagina Bound. Hopefully someday they'll release an album of just them singing songs, since their songs can be so very awesome.

Special thanks to Lucius and Dog for coming out. We splurged on an awesome meal before the show too, and I have to find out the name of that nummy beer I was drinking because I want to get more of it. :)

Writing, but not reading

Tonight I realized that I hadn't read through my friends page on LJ in a little while. Life's been busy and ponies can get distracted or tired or overwhelmed or whathaveyou'd. It's now 1:20 in the morning, I've read back as far as LJ wants to let me.. and I didn't catch up to what I remember reading the last time I went through my friends page. This means I either a) have too many friends (possibly) or b) am a douche for not taking interest in the lives of my friends (also possibly).

Again (as a standing order) to all of my friends: if I haven't taken the time to say hello or catch up on things it's not because I don't care. I could make a bunch of excuses but I'm not going to, because I suck at making excuses.

In other news, I will be unemployed in... two weeks or so. Master's degree is over; contract is at an end; no other work has been lined up yet, though I do have an opportunity or two in the pipe that I need to attend to. i do look forward to taking a break after work is finished, but damn I just know that whole "ask and ye shall receive" thing of "wow I'd like some time off" can turn into "wow I just had a goddamn year off I'd like some work now plz."

So, again, the above caveat applies with the added stipulation that I might be going slowly crazy trying to find a job.

Whee.
